The Kinross and District Pipe Band has a tradition of playing free of charge if  asked by local charities and tutoring children of the immediate area for free.

Alex Murphy joined  the band as a teenager right from the start.  In 1978 Alex took over as Pipe Major, and has been mentoring the Band ever since.
