The
Kinross Pipe Band was formed originally in the
summer of 1946 to play at local galas, festival events and pipe band
competitions.

During its long history the band has
always been keen to travel to competitions near and far and has won the
Grade 3 World Championships twice.

Through the town twinning scheme the band
has travelled to France on various occasions. They played at the
Celtic music festivals in Lorient, Brittany four times.

In 1994 they attended and played for the
Celtic Congress held in Cornwall, while individual members have played at
events worldwide, including Tokyo and Bangkok.
During a normal season, the band would,
and still does take part in most of the local competitions and some or
all of the 5 "Major" championships, wherever they may be held.

The Kinross and District Pipe Band has a
tradition of playing free of charge if asked by local charities and tutoring
children of the immediate area for free.
Alex Murphy joined the band as a teenager
right from the start. In 1978 Alex took over as Pipe Major, and has
been mentoring the Band ever since.
